Gravity

    Mercury is a tiny planet.  However, it has an enormous core.  The core is mostly iron.  Iron is a very heavy metal.  That means Mercury has a lot of mass for its size.  It has almost as much mass as the much larger Mars.  So, although Mercury's gravity is weaker than Earth's, its gravity is strong for its size.  The surface gravity on Mercury is 39 percent of Earth's.
